Robinhood Markets, Inc. is a U.S.-based financial services company that pioneered commission-free stock trading and democratized access to capital markets for a new generation of investors. Founded in April 2013 by Stanford classmates Vladimir Tenev and Baiju Bhatt, the company launched its mobile-first trading app in March 2015, eliminating trading commissions and fractional share investing to lower barriers for retail investors. Headquartered in Menlo Park, California, Robinhood has since expanded from equities into options, crypto, futures, index options, and event contract (prediction) markets, as well as offering cash management, retirement accounts, a credit card, and wealth management services through its Robinhood Strategies unit. The company also operates a crypto wallet, a desktop trading platform called Robinhood Legend, a news website (Sherwood.News), and a venture capital fund (Robinhood Ventures Fund I). As of early 2025, Robinhood served over 27 million funded customers and held approximately $377 billion in total platform assets. The company went public on the Nasdaq in July 2021 under the ticker HOOD and is a component of the S&P 500. Robinhood has faced significant regulatory scrutiny and public controversy, particularly during the 2021 GameStop trading frenzy and subsequent fines for data security and communications failures, but has maintained strong revenue growth—$4.47 billion in 2025—and a growing user base with a median customer age of 35.

A Ninth Circuit panel expressed skepticism toward Kalshi's argument that its CFTC-regulated sports contracts are not sports betting, as three California tribes seek to revive an injunction barring the platform from offering those contracts on tribal lands under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The court did not rule from the bench and has no set deadline for a decision.
