Treasure Island, commonly branded as TI, is a privately held hotel and casino resort on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. The property opened in 1993 as a pirate-themed resort developed by Steve Wynn’s Mirage Resorts, and its outdoor pirate battles quickly made it one of the Strip’s most recognizable attractions. Today Treasure Island is owned by billionaire businessman Phil Ruffin, who acquired it from MGM Mirage in 2003 and has kept it independent from the large public gaming conglomerates that dominate most neighboring properties. The resort operates a roughly 95,000-square-foot casino floor with slots, table games, poker, and a race and sportsbook, alongside more than 2,800 hotel rooms, restaurants, bars, a spa, pools, and the long-running Cirque du Soleil production Mystère. It is one of the few major independently owned casino-resorts remaining on the Las Vegas Strip. Although it appears in gambling trade press from time to time, Treasure Island is a land-based casino and hotel business rather than an online or sweepstakes casino operation.
