Polymarket Sponsorship Vanishes from FC Lazio Channels After Italy Ban

2026-07-28

Polymarket's branding has been removed from FC Lazio's official channels after Italy's ADM blocked the platform, while a banner remains and the broader Serie A partnership faces uncertainty amid political and regulatory challenges across Europe.

Polymarket's branding has been scrubbed from FC Lazio's official website and primary institutional channels, following the Italian regulator's move to block the prediction market platform in the country. The removal comes roughly two weeks after the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (ADM) took action on July 10, alleging that Polymarket was offering unauthorized betting services to Italian users.

A check of Lazio's online store confirms that the Polymarket logo no longer appears on either the home or away kits listed for sale. The link for sponsorship information now redirects to a page displaying the message: "We are sorry, the page you are looking for does not exist." However, at the time of review, one banner featuring players in Polymarket-branded jerseys remained visible, possibly left online inadvertently.

The sponsorship deal, announced in April 2026, was structured as a multi-year agreement that was expected to run until at least summer 2028 and was reportedly valued at around €22m. The partnership had already drawn political scrutiny before the ADM ban. In May, Democratic Party MPs submitted formal questions in Italy's Chamber of Deputies, asking ministers to evaluate whether the agreement complied with national gambling, advertising, and consumer protection laws.

Beyond Lazio, Polymarket is also the exclusive prediction market partner of Serie A, following a league-level agreement announced on May 14. The developments surrounding Lazio may now cast doubt over the future of that broader partnership.

Polymarket faces challenges in other European markets as well. The platform recently encountered restrictions in France and has stated it intends to contest the regulator's decision. Across Europe, a number of countries—including Germany, Ireland, Belgium, Romania, Switzerland, Poland, the Netherlands, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic—have already blocked or limited prediction markets. As scrutiny intensifies, Netflix has also released a short documentary exploring the topic from a U.S. perspective, covering issues such as Donald Trump, insider trading, problem gambling, and instances of journalists being pressured.
