History and Formation

Pure Casino Entertainment Limited Partnership was established in 2024 when Indigenous Gaming Partners—a consortium of five Mi’kmaq First Nations (Glooscap, Millbrook, Annapolis Valley, We’koqma’q L’nue’kati, and Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation) along with Sonco Gaming Inc.—acquired Pure Canadian Gaming, a business founded in 1973 by the late Heinz Oldach and Harry Nash. That original entity began as a charitable casino operator and rebranded as PURE in 2013. The 2024 transaction created a new operating company, Pure Casino Entertainment, which now holds a portfolio of seven casinos and three hotels.

Business Model and Operations

Pure Casino Entertainment operates land-based casinos offering slot machines, table games, poker, bingo, dining, and entertainment. The company’s gaming floor features over 2,000 slot machines and dozens of live table games across its properties. Through the June 2026 acquisition of Gamehost Inc., the company added Deerfoot Inn & Casino (a full-service casino with hotel in Calgary), Rivers Casino & Entertainment Centre in Fort McMurray, Great Northern Casino in Grande Prairie, and two hotel properties (Service Plus Inn & Suites and Encore Suites by Service Plus). This expansion brought total headcount to about 1,800 employees.

Online Expansion and Partnerships

A key growth driver is the upcoming online iGaming launch. In July 2026, Pure Casino Entertainment announced a partnership with Kambi Group plc to power a regulated online sportsbook and casino under the PureCasino.ca brand, timed with Alberta’s market opening on July 13, 2026. The partnership also includes retail sports betting terminals across all land-based properties, leveraging Kambi’s global trading network and player engagement tools. This move positions the company in Alberta’s newly regulated online gaming market.

Regulatory and Ownership Structure

Pure Casino Entertainment operates under AGLC regulation. Its parent, Indigenous Gaming Partners, is governed by a board of directors representing the five Mi’kmaq First Nations, with Michael Peters as Chairperson. The company emphasizes Indigenous ownership and economic development, aiming to deliver world-class guest experiences while supporting local charities.

Market Position and Competition

As one of Alberta’s largest casino operators, Pure Casino Entertainment competes with other provincial land-based and online operators, including those run by the AGLC and private entities. Its recent acquisition of Gamehost and planned online launch strengthen its competitive stance in the province’s evolving gaming landscape.
