Dr Joerg Hofmann

Dr. Joerg Hofmann is a German attorney and Senior Partner at MELCHERS law firm, where he leads the gaming and betting law practice group. He is a Past President of the International Masters of Gaming Law (IMGL), having served as President in 2014 and 2015.

He earned his Doctor of Laws from Heidelberg University in 1989 and began his legal career as a research assistant at the university's Constitutional Law Institute for Financial and Tax Law. He also spent time in the legal department of the Chamber of Foreign Trade in Sydney in 1992.

Hofmann has practiced gaming law since the mid-1990s and is recognized as one of Germany's leading gaming lawyers. He is consistently ranked as a Leading Individual in Gaming & Gambling by Chambers Global since 2011 and has been named best German gaming lawyer by Best Lawyers and HANDELSBLATT since 2014. In 2020, he received the Entertainment Lawyer of the Year award from Who's Who Legal.

He regularly speaks and moderates at international gaming law conferences and publishes articles in expert journals. He serves on the editorial board of Gaming Law Review and Economics and works in German and English.
