Birgitte Sand

Birgitte Sand is a Danish senior executive with over 25 years of experience in the gambling industry, most notably serving as the Director of the Danish Gambling Authority (DGA) for twelve years. During her tenure as head regulator, she was responsible for the successful construction and consolidation of a liberalized gambling licensing regime covering betting, online casino, land-based casinos, lotteries, and gaming machines. Her leadership included in-depth restructuring tasks, implementation of comprehensive law complexes, and massive digital transformation of work processes.

Since leaving the DGA, she has operated her own consultancy, Birgitte Sand & Associates ApS, advising gaming authorities, governments, legislators, and industry operators worldwide. She is also an active board member, sitting on the board of Mindway.AI (focusing on responsible gambling research and AI for problem gambling) and serving on the Global Advisory Board of the All-In Diversity Project.

Sand is a Past President and Patron of the International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR). Her accolades include European Regulator of the Year 2017 (IMGL), Compliance Lifetime Achievement Special Award 2021 (VIXIO Gambling Compliance), and induction into the SBC Sports Betting Hall of Fame 2021. She is a frequent speaker and moderator at global industry conferences, championing a dialogue-based relationship between regulators and the gambling industry.
