Bill Hornbuckle is the Chief Executive Officer and President of MGM Resorts International, one of the world's largest gaming, entertainment and hospitality companies. He has led the company since July 2020, guiding it through the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent recovery.
Born September 1, 1957, on a U.S. Air Force base in Japan, Hornbuckle grew up in Connecticut and moved to Las Vegas to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, earning a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Administration. His career began in entry-level positions as a room service attendant and busboy at the Jockey Club, eventually becoming assistant hotel manager at the Flamingo Hilton.
He held senior leadership roles at Mirage Resorts, including Vice President of Hotel Operations for The Mirage when it opened in 1989, and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Treasure Island. He later served as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Golden Nugget Laughlin and Caesars Palace before joining MGM Grand Las Vegas in 1998.
Over two decades at MGM Resorts, Hornbuckle held a series of senior roles: President and COO of Mandalay Bay, Chief Marketing Officer, President of Design and Development overseeing major projects like National Harbor and T-Mobile Arena, and Chief Operating Officer for the entire company. He also led the creation of the M Life Rewards loyalty program.
In March 2020 he was appointed Acting CEO and President, navigating the company through unprecedented challenges, and was named permanent CEO and President on July 29, 2020. He also serves as Executive Director and Board Chairman of MGM China Holdings, Chairman of the CityCenter JV Board, and is a member of the Clark County Stadium Authority Board. He has been instrumental in bringing the NHL's Golden Knights, the WNBA's Aces, and the NFL's Raiders to Las Vegas. In February 2025 he was selected National Chair of the U.S. Travel Association.
