Virginia's sports betting handle grew 6.4% to $589.2m in June, though adjusted gross revenue dipped 2.2% to $55.9m; the Virginia Lottery also reported commercial casino revenue up 17.3% to $92.1m.

Virginia's combined online and retail sports betting market recorded $589.2m in handle for June, a 6.4% year-over-year increase, according to the Virginia Lottery. The growth in wagering volume, however, did not translate into higher operator earnings: adjusted gross revenue (AGR) came in at $55.9m, down 2.2% from the same month last year.

Mobile betting again dominated the activity, generating just under $586m of handle — a 23.9% improvement — and contributing more than $55.6m of the state's total AGR, a 3.1% decline. Retail sportsbooks, by contrast, saw handle fall 37.1% to $3.2m, but their revenue picture improved dramatically: retail AGR reached $220,411, rebounding from a $327,616 loss in June of the prior year.

The monthly figures also produced about $8.4m in total tax payments from licensed operators, including $8.2m directed to the state's General Fund Allocation and $216,860 to the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund Allocation.

Casino revenue update

On July 15, the Virginia Lottery separately reported commercial casino revenue for June, with the state's land-based operators generating $92.1m in total, up 17.3% year-over-year. Slot machine revenue rose 20.5% to $71.1m, while table game revenue increased 7.5% to $21m.

Among individual venues, Caesars Virginia led the market with $32.1m in revenue, a 5% gain. Rivers Casino Portsmouth posted a 6.7% decline but still brought in nearly $24.7m.
