Vectiq Inc. has acquired PlayCanada.com from Catena Media, securing a long-standing Canadian iGaming brand just as Alberta’s regulated online gaming market opens to private operators on 13 July 2026, positioning the group to capitalise on the country’s second major regulated provincial market.
Vectiq Inc., a Nevada-based performance acquisition group, has completed the purchase of PlayCanada.com from Catena Media US, Inc., one of the largest iGaming affiliate networks globally. The deal hands Vectiq a well-known Canadian iGaming brand just as the country’s regulated landscape reaches a pivotal moment: Alberta launched its regulated online gaming market for private operators on 13 July 2026, making it the second major province to do so after Ontario’s iGaming Ontario framework.
PlayCanada.com — a domain registered as far back as 2000 — ranks among Canada’s most enduring iGaming media properties, delivering coverage of casino, sports betting, poker and slots across all major provinces, including Ontario and Alberta. For Vectiq, the acquisition serves as both a market entry and a strategic signal. The group is assembling a portfolio of iGaming media sites that drive regulated player acquisitions for operators through editorial content, SEO, paid media, free-to-play game mechanics and CRM systems — an approach the company describes internally as “an affiliate built like an operator.”
Pablo Ferreira, Vectiq’s CEO, noted the brand’s established trust with Canadian audiences. “PlayCanada.com is a brand that Canadians have trusted for a generation,” he said. He added that Alberta’s regulated rollout will generate heavy demand for credible, province-specific guidance, and that PlayCanada.com’s editorial depth and national reach put Vectiq in a strong position to meet that need.
Catena Media’s Chief Operating Officer, Pierre Cadena, explained the rationale behind the sale. “PlayCanada.com is passing to a partner well placed to take it further,” he stated. He emphasised that Vectiq’s Canadian expertise and local presence make it an ideal fit to grow the brand as Alberta opens up, calling the move part of Catena’s MRKTPLAYS+ strategy. “Canada remains an important market for Catena Media,” Cadena added.
With this transaction, Vectiq’s Canadian portfolio now includes MaxSpinz.com, an Ontario-focused casino and sweepstakes review platform, complementing PlayCanada.com’s national scope. The group’s operating model blends organic search, paid media acquisition, free-to-play game mechanics and CRM capabilities — disciplines that, when applied to assets with existing domain authority and audience recognition, form the core thesis behind Vectiq’s acquisition strategy.
Alberta’s new regulated market is central to that thesis. Ontario has already demonstrated that a well-designed iGaming framework can generate substantial regulated play while reducing grey-market activity, and Alberta’s launch represents the next frontier. Affiliate brands with Canadian credibility, province-specific content and established domain authority are expected to be among the primary beneficiaries. PlayCanada.com’s existing Alberta-facing content — including retail casino guides and province-level regulatory articles — positions it as a natural anchor for Vectiq’s strategy in that province.
