The disruption began early Monday when a fire ignited in a linen storage area at approximately 5:31 a.m. The Atlantic City Fire Department responded to heavy smoke and burning debris, but the water used to douse the flames caused substantial damage throughout the property. Water flowed into elevator shafts and back-of-house corridors, and a large portion of the lobby ceiling collapsed as a result.
No injuries were reported, and authorities are still investigating the fire's cause. The incident forced the cancellation of table games, slot machine play, sports betting, and a scheduled slots tournament on Monday.
In a Facebook statement after reopening, resort officials expressed gratitude: "Ocean thanks its dedicated team members, partners, and the NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement for their swift response to restore operations."
