Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City is set to resume gambling operations today after a fire and subsequent flooding forced a temporary closure. The incident began around 5:30 a.m. local time when the Atlantic City Fire Department responded to a blaze in the property's linen room. While extinguishing the fire, a pipe burst elsewhere in the building, causing part of the lobby ceiling to collapse and affecting several hallways and elevators.
Property officials confirmed that the water leak impacted the casino's gaming support systems, leading to a shutdown of all gambling activities yesterday. The resort now reports that the issues have been resolved with no injuries sustained, and the casino floor is expected to reopen today.
This disruption comes shortly after Ocean Casino Resort launched its 18 Mini Golf & Bar entertainment venue on the casino level in January 2026. Other recent developments on the Atlantic City boardwalk include Hard Rock AC's $50m renovation project for 2026 and Caesars' opening of a new beach club destination in May, featuring a full-service bar, live DJ entertainment, and a rooftop deck with VIP seating.
On the regulatory front, New Jersey's Budget Committee approved legislation in July that would impose a 9% tax on prediction market gross income and introduce responsible gaming requirements. Meanwhile, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement reported June combined revenue of $585.6m for iGaming and sports wagering, a 0.7% year-over-year increase.
