LSports and gripAI Launch AI-Powered Play Insurance to Turn Near-Misses into Retention Revenue

2026-07-15

LSports and gripAI have launched Play Insurance, an AI-powered bet insurance product that refunds near-misses to boost player retention and create a new premium-based revenue stream for operators, with 37% uptake and full integration through LSports' global network.

Sports data provider LSports has partnered with AI firm gripAI to launch Play Insurance, a real-time bet-insurance product designed to keep players engaged after near-losses. The solution allows bettors to insure any wager for a small, AI-calculated premium; if the bet loses but comes close to winning based on match statistics, the player receives a partial refund, while the operator retains the premium.

How Play Insurance Works

Play Insurance is powered by gripAI’s proprietary pricing engine, which has been trained on more than 2.5 billion bets to calculate premiums dynamically in real time. Each premium is tailored to the individual player and specific wager, factoring in live odds, number of selections, and user profile. Unlike flat cashback offers, operators maintain full control over margins and can set a target margin through a standalone layer that integrates with existing sportsbook stacks. The product is also compatible with features such as Cash Out, enabling players to cash out a bet while keeping their insurance active.

Retention and Revenue Impact

According to LSports CRO Yoav Ziv, “Retention is one of the hardest problems our operators face, and the near-miss is where they lose players.” Early adoption data shows that 37% of players choose to purchase insurance when offered, and 39% of insured customers go on to buy the product again, indicating strong potential for both engagement and recurring revenue. Ziv added that Play Insurance creates “a genuinely new category” by combining gripAI’s technology with LSports’ global distribution and data capabilities.

Integration and Market Expansion

LSports plans to distribute Play Insurance across its worldwide sportsbook network through a lightweight integration designed for rapid deployment. The launch follows a period of growth for LSports in Latin America, including a multi-year deal with Mexico-based Caliente Interactive and the appointment of former Genius Sports executive Fernando Martinez as VP of Sales for Latin America. gripAI CEO Tal Hayon noted, “Betting has always been all-or-nothing, and that’s exactly what we set out to change. Our AI prices protection fairly and instantly for every bet.”
