Detailed Review
History
The Rank Group plc was incorporated in 1995 as Megastorm Public Limited Company and renamed in 1996, succeeding the historic Rank Organisation founded by J. Arthur Rank. Originally a cinema and film production giant, Rank diversified into gambling during the 1990s and completed its exit from all non-gambling leisure assets by 2007, selling Hard Rock International for $1 billion. The company then focused exclusively on its casino, bingo, and digital betting operations.
Land-Based Operations
Rank’s land-based footprint is the largest casino operator in the UK by number of venues, with 56 Grosvenor Casinos and 96 Mecca Bingo clubs. It also operates two Grosvenor Casinos in Belgium and ten bingo clubs under the Enracha brand in Spain.
Digital Arm
Its digital arm, Rank Interactive, powers online casino, bingo, and sportsbook offerings both in the UK and Spain, incorporating brands like Blue Square (acquired 2003) and YoBingo.es. In 2019, Rank acquired Stride Gaming plc for £116 million, strengthening its online bingo and slots portfolio.
Financial Performance
Financially, Rank reported underlying net gaming revenue of £795.3 million and operating profit of £67.0 million for the 2025 financial year (on a like-for-like basis). The company’s growth is driven by omni-channel integration, data analytics (partnering with Profisee for customer master data management), and digital experimentation (using Optimizely to increase game launches by 134%). Regulatory compliance and safer gambling are core to its strategy; the company has implemented predictive modelling tools to identify at-risk customers and promote responsible play.
Market Position
Rank is publicly listed on the London Stock Exchange and entered the FTSE 250 Index in May 2025. Its majority shareholder remains Guoco Group Limited. The company continues to invest in venue refurbishments and digital innovation, recently outlining growth plans for its Grosvenor Casinos brand in a capital markets event.
