Cerberus Technology Solutions (commonly referred to as Cerberus Technology) is an operating subsidiary of Cerberus Capital Management, L.P., a global alternative investment firm. Launched in September 2018, the company was created to lead technology transformations and modernisations across Cerberus’s portfolio of businesses and to facilitate new investments in technology, data, and analytics companies. Headquartered in New York, New York, the firm employs between 11 and 50 technology professionals. Cerberus Technology works closely with Cerberus investment and operating professionals to unlock value by applying emerging technology, data, and advanced analytics. Its service domains include digital and e-commerce, cybersecurity, cloud enablement and infrastructure optimisation, software development, data management, and advanced analytics (including artificial intelligence and machine learning). The subsidiary also operates a lab – Cerberus Labs – for data science and emerging technology incubation. By combining advisory and execution capabilities, Cerberus Technology helps portfolio companies drive efficiency, create new revenue streams, and accelerate digital differentiation. The unit is chaired by Matt Zames, President of Cerberus Capital Management, and led by CEO Len Laufer, who brings extensive experience from JPMorgan Chase and Argus Information. Cerberus Technology is privately held and operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Cerberus Capital Management.
Detailed Review
History and Launch
Cerberus Technology Solutions (CTS) was formally announced on 27 September 2018 as a new operating subsidiary of Cerberus Capital Management. The launch reflected Cerberus’s recognition that technology transformation is a central theme impacting all businesses and that specialised skills and dedicated resources are required to realise its benefits. CEO Len Laufer, who joined as Senior Managing Director, had previously served as Head of Intelligent Solutions at JPMorgan Chase (2013–2018) and before that co-founded and led Argus Information and Advisory Services, a provider of risk and pricing data to the payments industry, which was sold to Verisk Analytics in 2012. Matt Zames, then President of Cerberus, assumed the role of Chairman of CTS.
Services and Practice Areas
CTS is not a product company but a service-oriented operating unit. It offers advisory and execution expertise in six core practice areas: Digital and eCommerce (digital strategy, customer experience, cross-channel optimisation, personalisation); Cybersecurity (network protection, threat intelligence, continuous monitoring, identity and access management); Cloud (infrastructure optimisation, database modernisation, data science toolbox via Cerberus Labs); Software Development (best practices, user research, agile/waterfall methodologies, integration and monitoring); Data Management (acquisition, transformation, curation, master data management, governance, quality, security); and Advanced Analytics (scalable products, actionable insights, data science with ML/AI, model governance). Additionally, CTS supports Cerberus’s pre-investment diligence by assessing technology risks and opportunities.
Size and Scale
The company’s size has remained modest – LinkedIn lists 11–50 employees – reflecting its role as a lean, high-impact team embedded within Cerberus’s broader operating platform. CTS works across Cerberus’s global portfolio, which includes private equity, credit, and real estate investments valued at approximately $70 billion (as of 2025). The unit also helps source and operate new technology and analytics investments.
Current Status and Ownership
As of 2025, there is no public evidence of a name change, major leadership turnover, or spin-off. The company continues to be listed as an operating capability on Cerberus’s corporate website. No separate website exists; the official presence is hosted under cerberus.com. The subsidiary remains privately held.
