BetUK

History

BetUK is a successor to RedBet, an online sportsbook launched in 2017 as a joint venture between Racecourse Media Group and Trinergy. RMG, the media company representing many of the UK’s leading racecourses, saw the site as a direct-to-consumer way to monetise racing content. The original product was deliberately racing-focused, leveraging RMG’s relationships with tracks and data.

LeoVegas acquired RedBet in 2019, taking control of a UK-licensed sportsbook with an established racing customer base. The brand was integrated into LeoVegas’ technology stack and was rebranded as BetUK in 2021. The rebrand signalled a wider strategic move: from a niche racing brand to a mainstream UK sportsbook and casino operator.

Business Model

BetUK makes money through sports betting and casino gaming. Customers place bets on football, horse racing, tennis, cricket, rugby and other sports, with the operator taking a margin over time. The casino side offers slots, table games and live dealer content, with games supplied by NetEnt, Play’n GO, Evolution, Pragmatic Play and other major providers. Promotions such as acca boosts and cash-out are intended to increase engagement and retention.

Products

The core product is the BetUK sportsbook, available on desktop, mobile web and native apps. It covers pre-match and in-play markets across major UK and international sports. BetUK Casino offers a substantial game library from third-party suppliers plus live dealer tables. The mobile apps for iOS and Android give users access to both sports and casino in one account.

Proprietary Technology

In February 2023 BetUK became the first LeoVegas brand to launch on Tiger, the group’s in-house sportsbook platform. Tiger replaced an external sportsbook supplier and was built to give LeoVegas full control over pricing, trading and in-play functionality. The migration was a milestone for the group and gave BetUK a more tailored UK-facing sportsbook experience.

Regulation and Ownership

BetUK operates under a UK Gambling Commission licence held by LeoVegas International Ltd. The same entity is also regulated by the Malta Gaming Authority. The group is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, while UK-facing operations are based in London. LeoVegas itself is now part of MGM Resorts International, giving BetUK a parent company with global casino and entertainment interests.

Market Position

BetUK competes in the crowded UK online gambling market, a market dominated by well-known high-street and digital operators as well as newer online-only brands. It is positioned as a broad consumer brand rather than a specialist racing operator, although horse racing remains an important market. The brand benefits from LeoVegas’ marketing, compliance and technology infrastructure, and the Tiger platform gives it an independent sportsbook stack that can be adapted for UK players.
