Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, JP

Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, JP, is the Chief Executive Officer of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, the city's largest gambling operator and racing authority, a role he has held since February 2007. He first joined the Club in 1998 as Director of Racing and was promoted to Executive Director, Racing in 2000, later also overseeing the Property Department. Prior to his tenure at HKJC, he served for six years as CEO of the governing body of German horse racing and breeding.

Engelbrecht-Bresges holds a degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Insurance and Business Administration from the University of Cologne and played professional football in Germany before graduating. In addition to his Club responsibilities, he is a Justice of the Peace (appointed in July 2009) and serves on the Board of Directors of the Community Chest of Hong Kong. He holds leadership roles in international racing bodies, including Vice Chairman of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) and Member of the Executive Council of the Asian Racing Federation (ARF). He was also a board member of the Equestrian Events for the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong.
