Whitney Gravelle is a citizen of the Bay Mills Indian Community (“Gnoozhekaaning” – Place of the Pike) in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She currently serves as the President of the Bay Mills Indian Community, overseeing tribal governance, gaming operations including Bay Mills Resort & Casino and Kings Club Casino, community development, and environmental justice initiatives.
Gravelle earned her Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law in 2016, with a certificate from the Indigenous Law Program. Prior to her presidency, she worked for the U.S. Department of Justice in the Environment and Natural Resources Division (Indian Resources Section), served as Chief Judge of the Bay Mills Tribal Court, and acted as In-House Counsel for the Bay Mills Indian Community.
Beyond her tribal role, Gravelle chairs the U.S. Department of Interior’s Secretary’s Tribal Advisory Committee and serves as a Commissioner on the Michigan Advisory Council on Environmental Justice. She is also recognized as a water protector and language learner.
