Sinuhe Wallinheimo
Finnish Member of Parliament and Chair of the Grand Committee leading gambling reform
Sinuhe Wallinheimo (born 9 March 1972 in Jyväskylä, Finland) is a Finnish politician and former professional ice hockey goaltender. After a 20‑year playing career that included stints in the NCAA, AHL, ECHL, DEL, Elitserien, KHL, and SM‑liiga, he won a Finnish championship with JYP in 2009 and the Jari Kurri Award.
He entered politics and was elected to the Finnish Parliament in 2011 representing the National Coalition Party, and has been re-elected in 2015, 2019, and 2023. He also served as a substitute member of Finland’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from 2015 to 2019.
In the iGaming and gambling sector, Wallinheimo has become a prominent voice in Finland’s ongoing gambling reform debates. He advocates moving away from the state‑owned Veikkaus monopoly toward a commercial licensing system, and has publicly criticised the current monopoly’s handling of problem gambling, calling for greater transparency and harm prevention. He has participated in multiple parliamentary hearings and media appearances on the topic.
In April 2026 he was elected Chair of the Grand Committee of the Finnish Parliament, the parliamentary body responsible for EU affairs and gambling‑related legislation. The Grand Committee role positions him at the centre of Finland’s transition to a licensed iGaming market.
