Prof. Joshua Ellul
Associate Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Centre for Distributed Ledger Technologies at the University of Malta; former Chairman of the Malta Digital Innovation Authority
Joshua Ellul is an Associate Professor of Computer Science and the Director of the Centre for Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) at the University of Malta. His work focuses on blockchain and distributed ledger technology, with a particular emphasis on governance, regulation, and education. He is a recognized expert in the field and an active contributor to policy discussions around emerging technologies.
From 2018 until approximately 2022, Ellul served as the Chairman of the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), where he helped shape Malta's early leadership in blockchain regulation. He stepped down from the role to concentrate fully on his academic career and research, returning to his university positions.
A regular speaker at international conferences including AIBC and SiGMA, Ellul frequently addresses the intersection of emerging technologies with the gaming and financial services sectors. His academic work continues to inform both industry practice and public policy in the DLT space.
