Nick LaLota is a U.S. Representative for New York's 1st District, having taken office in January 2023. A lifelong Long Islander, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2002 and served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy, deploying to twenty countries and earning a Joint Service Commendation Medal for service in the Global War on Terrorism.
After active duty, LaLota entered local government. He served as a Village Trustee in Amityville from 2013 to 2016, then as Commissioner of the Suffolk County Board of Elections from 2017 to 2021, and later as Chief of Staff to the Suffolk County Legislature from 2021 to 2022.
In Congress, LaLota has been active in gambling-related legislation, co‑sponsoring bills to restore the full gambling loss tax deduction and to require facial‑recognition age verification for online gambling and prediction markets. His legislative work directly impacts the iGaming industry, making him a key figure in federal gambling policy.
