Kyriakos Pierrakakis
Minister of National Economy and Finance (Hellenic Republic) and Eurogroup President
Kyriakos Pierrakakis is the current Minister of National Economy and Finance of Greece, a position he assumed in March 2025 under the Mitsotakis cabinet. In December 2025, he was elected President of the Eurogroup, becoming the first Greek to hold that post. As Finance Minister, he has prioritized combating illegal gambling, estimating a €1.67 billion black market and proposing legislation that includes prison terms of up to 10 years for unlicensed operators and direct domain-blocking powers.
Born in Athens in 1983, Pierrakakis holds a Bachelor's in Computer Science from the Athens University of Economics and Business, a Master in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School, and a Master of Science in Technology and Policy from MIT. Before entering government, he served as Director of Research at Dianeosis, an independent Greek think tank. He is married with three children and speaks English and French.
Pierrakakis previously served as Minister of Digital Governance from 2019 to 2023, where he launched the gov.gr digital portal and the Gov.gr Wallet app, and chaired the OECD’s Global Strategy Group. He then became Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports from 2023 to 2025, passing legislation that allowed foreign private universities to operate in Greece and banning mobile phones in classrooms. His career reflects a strong focus on digital transformation and regulatory reform.
