Kimani Ichung'wah
Majority Leader, National Assembly of Kenya
Anthony Kimani Ichung'wah is the Majority Leader of the National Assembly of Kenya, representing the Kikuyu Constituency since 2013. He is the primary sponsor of the Gambling Control Bill (2023), which established the Gambling Control Act, a comprehensive reform of Kenya's betting regulation.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and History from the University of Nairobi and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA/K). He attended Alliance High School. Prior to politics, he held senior management roles at Diversey Lever East Africa, Madison Insurance Company, and the Standard Group.
He was first elected to the National Assembly in 2013 on a TNA ticket. During the 11th Parliament, he served as Vice-Chairman of the Public Investments Committee and on several departmental committees. In the 12th Parliament, he chaired the Budget and Appropriations Committee until 2019 and was a member of the Committee on Appointments.
In October 2022, he was appointed Majority Leader of the National Assembly, heading the Kenya Kwanza coalition. His legislative contributions include the Alcoholic Drinks Control (Amendment) Bill, 2014, the National Disaster Management Authority Bill, 2019, and various public finance reforms. He continues to focus on fiscal policy and gambling regulation.
