Josh Gottheimer

Josh Gottheimer represents New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District, which includes parts of Bergen, Passaic, and Sussex counties. First sworn in on January 3, 2017, he is now in his fifth term. He serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (Ranking Member of the NSA and Cyber Subcommittee) and the House Financial Services Committee. As co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Gaming Caucus, he has been a leading voice on gambling-related legislation in Congress.

Gottheimer introduced the Facial Recognition to Protect Children Act, a bill that would require online sportsbooks and prediction markets to use facial recognition technology to verify user ages. This measure reflects his focus on consumer protection and age verification in the iGaming space. He is also Vice-Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus, Co-Chair of the SALT Caucus and Law Enforcement Caucus, and a member of the Blue Dog Coalition and New Democrat Coalition.

Prior to his congressional career, Gottheimer worked as a speechwriter for President Bill Clinton and for the Gore 2000 presidential campaign. He then served as a Senior Advisor to the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission under both William Kennard and Michael Powell. After a fellowship at the Harvard Kennedy School, he spent eight years at Microsoft, rising to General Manager of Corporate Strategy and Senior Advisor to the CEO. He also co-founded the nonprofit G4 Alliance, focused on global surgical care, and was a fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School.
