Hossein Ensan
Professional Poker Player and 2019 WSOP Main Event Champion
Hossein Ensan is an Iranian‑German professional poker player, best known for winning the 2019 World Series of Poker Main Event for $10,000,000. Born on 22 May 1964 in Ahwaz, Iran, he moved to Germany at age 25 and initially studied civil engineering at the University of Münster before leaving to support his family through jobs as a taxi driver, waiter, and painter. He began playing poker informally at 18 and turned professional in 2012.
Ensan caught the poker world’s attention in 2014 by winning the EPT Barcelona Seniors Event and finishing third in the Main Event. He followed that with a victory in the 2015 EPT Prague Main Event (€754,510) and took the 2017 WSOP Circuit Main Event in Rozvadov ($219,000). His career‑defining moment came in 2019 when he became the second German champion and the oldest Main Event winner in 20 years.
Still active on the tournament circuit, Ensan has recorded deep runs in 2024 and 2025. He is ranked 7th on Germany’s all‑time money list with live earnings exceeding $14.7 million and is based in Münster, Germany.
