Gianni Infantino

Giovanni "Gianni" Vincenzo Infantino is a Swiss-Italian-Lebanese football administrator who has served as the President of FIFA since 2016. Born in Brig, Switzerland, on March 23, 1970, Infantino studied law at the University of Fribourg and is a polyglot, speaking several languages including Italian, French, German, English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Arabic.

Infantino's career in football administration began with UEFA in 2000, where he steadily rose through the ranks. He became the Deputy General Secretary of UEFA in 2007 and was appointed Secretary General in October 2009. During his tenure at UEFA, he was instrumental in introducing Financial Fair Play, enhancing commercial support for smaller national associations, and overseeing the expansion of the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament to 24 teams. He also played a role in the creation of the UEFA Nations League.

He was first elected FIFA President on February 26, 2016, and has since been re-elected in 2019 and again in March 2023 for a term through 2027. As FIFA President, Infantino has focused on wide-ranging reforms, expanding global participation in FIFA's flagship competitions, and boosting investment in football development through the Forward Programme. He has overseen the expansion of the FIFA World Cup to 48 teams.

While his role at FIFA involves interactions with the sports betting and gaming sectors, such as issuing warnings to players against betting on sports and overseeing FIFA's eFootball initiatives, he is not directly involved in the operational or executive aspects of the iGaming or gambling industry. His leadership has also seen FIFA engage in commercial data deals with sports betting companies and actively work on its own gaming franchise to rival other sports simulation games. He is also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 2020.
