Dr Max Bernt
Global Head of Regulatory Affairs and Managing Director for Europe, APAC & EMEA at Taxbit
Dr Max Bernt serves as Global Head of Regulatory Affairs and Managing Director for Europe, APAC & EMEA at Taxbit, a digital asset tax and compliance software company. He joined Taxbit in early 2024 to lead the company’s international expansion into Europe and now oversees global regulatory affairs while managing operations across multiple regions.
He holds a joint PhD in transnational criminal law and regulatory policy from the University of Vienna and the University of Queensland, focusing on transnational collaboration and information reporting to combat organized crime. Before moving into crypto regulation, Dr Bernt spent over eight years as a criminal defense lawyer at a renowned law firm in Vienna and passed the Austrian judge exam with distinction in 2020.
At Taxbit, Dr Bernt is deeply involved in public-private discussions on crypto regulation, including the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), the DAC8 tax reporting directive, the anti-money laundering package, and the OECD’s Crypto Asset Reporting Framework (CARF).
He lectures at several universities, has published numerous articles with well-known publishers, and regularly acts as an advisor and speaker on crypto-related regulation. Dr Bernt is a Board Member of the International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications (INATBA) and was appointed GBBC’s Global Ambassador for Taxation.
