Dawn Himel
Director of the Gaming Division, Louisiana Attorney General’s Office
Dawn M. Himel is the Director of the Gaming Division of the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, a role she assumed in June 2024 after more than a decade within the division. She joined the Gaming Division in 2010 after private practice, and over the years held positions across Licensing and Compliance, Adjudication, and Litigation, later becoming Section Chief of Licensing and Compliance and Deputy Director before her appointment as Director.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies with minors in Marketing and Business from the University of Central Florida, and both a Juris Doctor and a bachelor’s in Civil Law from LSU’s Paul M. Hebert School of Law. She is a member of several professional organizations including the International Masters of Gaming Law, International Association of Gaming Advisors, North American Gaming Regulators Association, and the Sports Betting Regulators Association, where she also serves on the board. In 2024 she received the Excellence in Gaming Award for Regulatory Individual Demonstrating Excellence and was named one of “5 Who Shine” by Global Gaming Business.
As Director, Himel oversees regulatory enforcement, licensing, and litigation for gaming in Louisiana, including emerging areas such as sports betting and illegal gambling enforcement. She has been a featured speaker at industry events like G2E and the BSA/AML Gaming Conference, sharing the state regulator perspective on combating illegal gambling.
