Bill John Baker

Bill John Baker (born February 9, 1952) is a Cherokee leader and businessman who currently serves as Executive Chairman of Cherokee Nation Businesses (CNB), the tribe's economic development and operating company. CNB manages eight casinos, hotels, federal contracting, and other enterprises, and Baker oversees its gaming expansion and diversification.

Baker served as the 7th Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation from 2011 to 2019. His previous elected service included two stints on the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council, from 1995 to 1999 and 2003 to 2011. He also built a successful furniture business in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, which he operated continuously from the early 1970s.

During his tenure as Principal Chief, Baker prioritized economic development, healthcare, and education. He played a key role in expanding tribal gaming operations and forging a tribally affiliated medical school with Oklahoma State University. After leaving office, he transitioned to the private sector as Executive Chairman of CNB, where he continues to drive major projects such as the planned Legends Resort & Casino in Arkansas and the celebration of Cherokee Nation Entertainment's 35 years of gaming growth.
