Baroness Twycross

Baroness Twycross (Fiona Ruth Twycross) serves as the UK Government Minister for Museums, Heritage and Gambling at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, a role she has held since July 2024. As the minister responsible for the gambling portfolio, she oversees policy and regulation across the iGaming and betting industry, including the government's ongoing review of the Gambling Act 2005.

Before entering government, Baroness Twycross was a Labour whip in the House of Lords from 2021 to 2024, serving as a Baroness in Waiting. She was an active member of the Labour Party's National Executive Committee from 2018 to 2021 and stood as the Labour candidate for Grimsby in the 2010 general election. Earlier in her career, she worked as a political advisor in the House of Lords and held a role at Birkbeck, University of London.

In her ministerial capacity, Baroness Twycross has focused on balancing economic contributions from gambling with harm reduction. She has spoken at industry events such as the Betting and Gaming Council AGM and launched the Illegal Gambling Taskforce to combat unlicensed operations. Her portfolio also encompasses museums and heritage, reflecting a broad cultural brief.

Beyond her departmental duties, she is a Trustee of the Royal Armouries Museum and a member of the Privy Council. Her work in the Lords includes contributing to debates on gambling reform, cultural policy, and heritage protection.
