Angelo Dalli

Angelo Dalli (born 14 April 1978 in Pietà, Malta) is a Maltese computer scientist specializing in artificial intelligence, a serial entrepreneur who has founded nine startups, and a business angel investor involved in over 40 successful companies. He has been part of four IPOs or M&A transactions. Dalli earned a BSc and MSc from the University of Malta before completing a PhD at the University of Sheffield under Yorick Wilks, on "Timeline and Named Entity Extraction for Hyperlinked Corpora" (2010).

Dalli represented Malta in the International Olympiad in Informatics in 1995, winning a bronze medal, and later led the Maltese national informatics team at IOI 2002 and IOI 2004. He has published over 23 peer-reviewed papers in AI and natural language processing, filed 52 patents since 2019, and holds an Erdős number of 3. He contributed to the Common Locale Data Repository for Unicode encoding of European languages.

In the iGaming/gambling sector, Dalli has been a featured speaker at events such as the IGAMING BUSINESS ZONE in Ibiza, and has applied AI solutions in entertainment and gaming since 2006. His company Bit8 (later part of Intralot) was active in the iGaming space. He also led the Government of Malta taskforce that produced Malta's national AI strategy and AI regulation framework. Dalli is an active member of IEEE, AAAI, ACM, and ACL, and a fully accredited member of EBAN (European Business Angel Network). Today, as CEO and Chief Scientist at Umnai, he leads the development of hybrid intelligence/neurosymbolic AI for mission-critical applications in iGaming, fintech, and transportation.
