Andrew R. Jassy was born January 13, 1968, in Scarsdale, New York. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in government (cum laude) from Harvard University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Before business school, he worked at MBI (a collectibles company) and co‑founded a short‑lived venture. He joined Amazon in 1997 as a marketing manager, later serving as Jeff Bezos’s first technical advisor.

In 2003, he and Bezos conceived of what became Amazon Web Services (AWS), which launched in 2006. Jassy led AWS from its inception, became its CEO in April 2016, and was named Amazon’s CEO in July 2021, succeeding Jeff Bezos. He sits on Amazon’s Board of Directors and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
