Andy Danson is a Partner at Bird & Bird LLP, where he leads the firm’s international Media, Entertainment and Sports group and its international Gambling group. His practice concentrates on gambling and sports law, covering commercial transactions, British and international gambling regulation, sports data and media rights exploitation, and new business models. He advises a wide range of clients, from major listed operators to new market entrants and betting syndicates, on contracts including RGS, software and game supply, white label, content streaming, data supply and affiliate marketing deals.
In the sports sector, Danson handles major international data and media rights, sponsorship, licensing, event staging, and supply agreements for governing bodies, rights holders, teams, broadcasters, agencies, and global brands. He was seconded to LOCOG (the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games organising committee) and is a former first-class cricketer, having played for Cambridge University and other teams between 1999 and 2001.
Danson is a member of the International Masters of Gaming Law and has been invited by the European Commission and the Asser Institute to expert workshops on gambling advertising and the sports-gambling commercial relationship. He is recognised as a Thought Leader by Lexology (Index Ranking) and received the Lexology Client Choice award in the Sport category in 2021.
