Alex Thursby

Alex Thursby is a seasoned corporate leader with deep experience in international banking and governance. He has served as Non-Executive Chair of The Rank Group plc since October 2019 and will step down at the company’s annual general meeting on 15 October 2025, after six years in the role. Thursby initially joined Rank’s board as a non-executive director in August 2017.

Before his tenure at Rank, Thursby was Chief Executive of the National Bank of Abu Dhabi from 2013 to 2016, where he led the bank through a period of strategic growth. His earlier career includes senior roles at Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) and a 20-year career at Standard Chartered Bank, where he held a variety of international positions. This extensive background in banking has given him strong expertise in strategic leadership, risk management, and corporate governance.

Thursby’s current focus is on steering The Rank Group through its next phase while ensuring a smooth leadership transition. His blend of financial services and gambling-sector board experience makes him a respected figure in both industries.
