Alex Gluchowski

Alex Gluchowski is the Co-founder and CEO of Matter Labs, a company at the forefront of scaling the Ethereum blockchain using zero-knowledge proofs. He is also recognized as the co-inventor of zkSync, a trustless protocol designed to facilitate scalable, low-cost transactions and support EVM smart contracts on Ethereum. Gluchowski co-founded Matter Labs in December 2018 alongside Alex Vlasov, with a mission to advance personal freedom and decentralization through blockchain technology.

Before dedicating his efforts to Matter Labs, Gluchowski accumulated over 15 years of experience in software engineering and startups. His early career included roles such as Junior Software Developer at Electronprylad from 2003 to 2004 and Software Developer at Clarity Ukraine from 2004 to 2006. He later became Head of Software Engineering at Clarity AG from 2007 to 2009.

His entrepreneurial journey saw him serve as CTO of ExpoGlobus.com, where he built a remote team and created a comprehensive web-based SaaS for trade show and forum management. In December 2013, he co-founded Somuchmore GmbH, developing the MVP for a European network for holistic lifestyles, which was later acquired. From 2015 to 2017, Gluchowski was the CTO and co-founder of PaulCamper, a camper-rental startup that grew to become Europe's largest RV-sharing marketplace. Before co-founding Matter Labs, he was the Director of R&D at Entropy Labs from 2017 to 2018, focusing on Ethereum R&D.

Gluchowski holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the Berlin Institute of Technology (Technische Universität Berlin), which he completed in 2011. Under his leadership, Matter Labs has secured substantial funding from prominent investors, including a $2 million seed round in 2019, a $6 million Series A in 2021, and a $50 million Series B in 2021, with further backing of $200 million in a Series C round in 2022. He is a frequent speaker at blockchain conferences, advocating for zero-knowledge proofs and their role in the future of decentralized systems.
