Partner and Head of Mass Disputes & Class Action Practice at Houthoff

Albert Knigge is a partner at Houthoff, where he heads the firm’s mass disputes and class action practice and is a member of the Supreme Court Litigation team. With over 25 years of experience, he acts as defence counsel in complex, multiparty cross-border disputes for corporates, financial institutions, and sovereign entities, covering class action litigation, mass claim settlements, and follow-on civil litigation.

Knigge’s career at Houthoff has included several leadership roles: he led the litigation team from 2010 to 2015, served on the Board of Directors from 2015 to 2017, and was a member of the Executive Committee from 2017 to 2022. He was admitted to the Dutch Bar in 1997.

He holds a PhD from the University of Groningen, with a thesis titled De effectieve toegang tot het civiele geding (“Effective access to civil proceedings”), as well as degrees in Dutch Law and Notarial Law from the same university.

Beyond his law practice, Knigge is a recognised speaker and moderator at iGaming industry events, addressing topics such as player refund claims and cross-border enforcement of judgments.
