Yggdrasil sees its strong European footprint as the bedrock for global expansion, leveraging proven IPs and a regionalised structure to navigate regulatory complexity, while gamification and agile products help the supplier compete for player attention against mainstream entertainment.
Despite mounting regulatory challenges across Europe, Yggdrasil continues to view the continent as the essential launching pad for its worldwide growth strategy. Phil Taylor, the supplier's Head of Region for Europe, emphasises that the company's strong European presence underpins its aspirations in emerging markets such as South America and the United States.
Taylor acknowledges that Yggdrasil does not claim top-tier status across the whole continent, but he points to a robust portfolio of established intellectual properties as evidence of the company's trusted position. Titles like the Viking series, Vikings Go Berzerk, Raptor, MultiFly, and Valley of the Gods have earned recognition for innovation. Combined with a strong aggregation offering through its Masters solution, the supplier is well placed to deepen relationships with operators both in existing territories and new ones.
Adapting to varied and shifting regulations across dozens of countries remains a significant hurdle. Taylor notes that staying compliant requires constant vigilance: “You’ve got to be able to adapt … it’s about being compliance first, developing the products, making sure you can adapt to any changes.” Yggdrasil recently restructured to become more regionalised, allowing it to focus on local operator and player performance more effectively.
Competing for player attention against entertainment giants like Netflix and TikTok also demands innovation. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution, Yggdrasil is leaning on enhanced gamification tools, which Taylor says have delivered “massive uplift in recent months,” as well as the more agile Game in a Box product line to keep players engaged and help operators succeed.
