Alea's analysis of 1.5 million sweepstakes players reveals a fundamentally different user profile: novelty-seeking, mobile-first, and casual, with 47% of revenue from games under six months old and a 10% premium on mobile ARPU over desktop.
The sweepstakes sector has grown explosively over the past two years, yet the identity of its core player has remained unclear. New analysis from Alea, whose platform powers approximately 80% of the virtual casino floor for sweepstakes operators, sheds light on this audience. The study examined two years of activity across 1.5 million players and 1.8 billion bets, tracking behaviour that diverges sharply from traditional iGaming norms.
Monthly revenues across the network rose from €1 million to €13.4 million over seven quarters—an 11.5x increase mirroring rapid expansion seen in markets like Brazil. Despite visual similarities between sweepstakes and standard casino games, player habits tell a different story. In April 2026, 47% of revenue came from games less than six months old, a stark contrast to the 30–40% share that legacy titles hold in conventional casinos. Sweepstakes players gravitate toward novelty, quickly adopting new releases and reshuffling the top games within weeks.
This demand for fresh content has attracted new studios: the number of active developers on Alea’s network jumped from 19 to 58 in a single year. Booming Games exemplifies this shift—after seven or eight years in traditional markets without ever exceeding a 10% market share, it captured 10% of Alea’s network revenue (roughly €1.5 million) within two months of entering the sweepstakes space, landing among the top four studios. Such rapid success would be anomalous elsewhere but is becoming typical in sweepstakes.
Player sessions fit into daily micro-moments rather than fixed desktop sessions. Mobile devices generate 86% of total revenue, with mobile ARPU running 10% higher than desktop. The average player spends about €30 per month on coin packages and bets roughly €1.20 per round. Low-volatility slots dominate, featuring a hit frequency of around 25%—a win approximately every four spins—sustaining longer play sessions.
A small segment behaves differently: only 6% of active users engage with live casino games, yet they account for 10% of category revenue. Live casino players show a €50 monthly ARPU versus €29 for slot users, and stake approximately €10 per round. However, corporate pressure at the end of 2025 drove several major live studios to exit the sweepstakes space, creating a significant gap in supply for these high-value users.
Overall, the sweepstakes player is not a static figure—they adopt new games quickly, play casually on mobile, and defy the behavioral templates that define traditional iCasino audiences. Their preferences evolve faster than conventional models can capture, making this a moving target for operators and suppliers alike.
