Ontario online gambling handle climbs 30% to C$9.46bn in June

iGaming Ontario reported that June wagers in the province’s regulated online market rose 30.3% year-on-year to C$9.46bn, while gross gaming revenue grew 30.6% to C$400.6m and active player accounts increased 30% to 1.32 million.
Ontario’s regulated online gambling market recorded its fifth-highest monthly handle since launch in June, with total wagers of C$9.46bn, according to iGaming Ontario. The figure represents a 30.3% increase year-on-year and keeps the market on a firm growth trajectory since it opened in April 2022.
Gross gaming revenue, before adjustments, reached C$400.6m (US$285.8m), up 30.6% from the prior year. Sports betting contributed a handle of C$1.03bn, a 34.5% year-over-year improvement and a 6% rise from May, with activity boosted by FIFA World Cup betting. Operators generated C$78.6m in sports betting revenue, up 34.4% from a year earlier.
Online casino wagering reached C$8.30bn for the month, ranking as the third-highest total on record behind only the March and May figures of this year.
Active player accounts totalled 1.32 million, up 30% from the previous year, with average revenue of C$304 per account. Ontario collected C$80m in taxes from the sector during June.
