Macau's Airport Sees 7.9% Passenger Growth in First Half of 2026

Macau International Airport posted a 7.9% increase in passenger traffic in the first half of 2026, reaching 3.9 million movements, though second-quarter declines in both passenger numbers and flight operations signaled a slowdown in aviation activity.
Macau International Airport recorded approximately 3.90 million passenger movements during the first six months of 2026, representing a 7.9% year-on-year increase driven largely by strong travel demand in the first quarter. The data, released by Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM), showed total passenger throughput of 3,896,692 for the January-to-June period.
March emerged as the busiest month of the half, with 720,175 passenger movements, followed by February (716,963) and January (680,282). However, momentum tapered off in the second quarter: April saw 666,416 passengers, May dropped to 587,778 (down 0.45% year-on-year), and June fell further to 525,078, a decline of 9.3% compared to the same month last year.
On the operations side, the airport handled 28,957 aircraft movements in the first six months, up 2.19% from the prior-year period. March again led with 5,373 movements (up 13.12% year-on-year), while January and February recorded 5,246 and 5,333 movements (the latter rising 20.03% year-on-year).
Flight activity slowed notably in the second quarter. April movements rose 3.46% year-on-year to 4,841, but May declined 8.64% to 4,240 and June dropped 13.11% to 3,964. The June figures marked the sharpest year-on-year contractions in both passenger traffic and aircraft movements during the first half, signaling weakened aviation activity toward the end of the period.
