DraftKings Prepares for Alberta Launch on July 13

DraftKings is set to expand its Canadian footprint with the launch of its online sportsbook and casino offerings in Alberta on July 13. This move establishes Alberta as the second Canadian province where the operator has a regulated online gambling presence, following its debut in Ontario.

Upon launch, the DraftKings Sportsbook will become available to eligible customers in Alberta, marking its presence in the 34th jurisdiction across North America. In addition to the sportsbook, customers will gain access to a comprehensive suite of online casino products through both DraftKings Casino and the Golden Nugget Online Gaming brand. These platforms will offer features such as same-game parlays, live betting options, and odds boosts, catering to the province's sports enthusiasts.

Ahead of its official market entry, DraftKings is engaging with the local community. The company hosted a FIFA World Cup watch party in Calgary on July 11 as part of a broader series of events taking place across North America during the tournament. Furthermore, DraftKings announced a significant community initiative, committing a donation of CAD$150,000 to Food Banks Alberta. This funding is projected to facilitate the purchase of over 40,000 pounds of food for distribution through the organization’s extensive network of food banks across the province, with employees also volunteering their time.

Commenting on the expansion, Greg Karamitis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports at DraftKings, expressed enthusiasm for the new market. "We’re thrilled to launch DraftKings Sportsbook and DraftKings Casino, as well as Golden Nugget Online Gaming in Alberta and continue expanding our presence in Canada," he stated. Karamitis further highlighted Alberta's passionate sports fanbase, noting the opportune timing of the launch amidst the ongoing World Cup as an especially exciting moment to introduce their services to Albertans.
