A new survey commissioned by Superbet and conducted by the QualiBest Institute reveals that Argentina has become the most supported team among Brazilian football fans following Brazil's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to the poll, 17% of Brazilian respondents now plan to back their historic rival Argentina for the remainder of the tournament.

Norway, the team that knocked Brazil out of the competition, came in second with 16% of the preference. France followed at 11%, Spain at 8%, and England at 6%. A notable 18% of respondents said they have not yet decided which team to support.

The findings are particularly striking given the intense rivalry between Brazil and Argentina in South American football. Argentina enters the final stages as the defending champion, having won the previous World Cup.

Player Preferences: Messi and Haaland Tied

When asked which player they would most like to see win the World Cup, Brazilian fans showed a tie for first place: Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland each received 21% of the vote, while Kylian Mbappé came in third at 12%. Messi is aiming to lead Argentina to another title, while Haaland played a key role in Brazil's elimination by scoring both of Norway's goals in the knockout match.

Survey Methodology

Conducted online on July 7-8, 2026, the survey sampled 808 Brazilian internet users aged 18 and older from various regions and socioeconomic backgrounds. QualiBest states that the sample is representative of the Brazilian internet user profile. Data collection used a quantitative online questionnaire via the QualiBest platform, drawing participants from the institute's proprietary panel of approximately 250,000 registered panelists.
