Arizona to Open Limited Event Wagering License Applications in August 2026

Arizona will accept applications for up to ten limited event wagering licenses from 13-27 August 2026, enabling retail sports betting at racetracks and off-track facilities, with 8% of adjusted revenue going to the state.
The Arizona Department of Gaming has confirmed it will start accepting applications for limited event wagering licenses from 13 August 2026. These licenses allow operators to offer retail-style sports betting in partnership with racetracks or off-track betting facilities that hold a permit from the Division of Racing.
A maximum of ten licenses will be awarded, each tied to a specific location as set out in state statute A.R.S. § 5-1307. The application window runs from 13 August until 27 August 2026 at 5 p.m. Arizona Time, and only completed submissions received within that period will be considered.
Cliff Holden, Assistant Director of Certification and Licensing for the Department, said: “Applicants for limited event wagering operator licenses will undergo a thorough licensing evaluation process structured to ensure consumer protection.” He added that the Department looks forward to receiving applications for this licence type within the state.
Since Arizona launched legal event wagering and sports betting in 2021, residents have placed $34.6 billion in wagers, generating approximately $185.8 million in privilege fees for the state. Under the new limited event wagering framework, 8% of adjusted retail event wagering revenue will be paid as privilege fees, providing a monthly income stream to Arizona.
The Department will assess all applications according to the criteria established in the relevant rules and statutes.
