History and Founding

OneAdvanced began in 2008 as Advanced Computer Software, founded by Vin Murria in Slough. The company grew through acquisitions and went public on the Alternative Investment Market. In 2014, Vista Equity Partners acquired the company for £765 million, taking it private. Under Vista's ownership, the company continued to expand, and in 2019 Vista sold a 50% stake to BC Partners for £2 billion, establishing joint ownership. A 2023 strategy refresh led to a rebranding from Advanced to OneAdvanced and a renewed focus on sector-specific software portfolios.

Recent Strategic Moves

In January 2024, OneAdvanced sold its application modernisation division to IBM for integration into IBM Consulting, focusing the company on its core software platform and sector portfolios. The 2023 strategy refresh also included appointing a new executive team: Simon Walsh as CEO, Stephen Dews as CFO, and Andrew Henderson as CTO. These moves were aimed at accelerating growth in high-potential markets and simplifying the company's structure. OneAdvanced has been recognized as Europe's Best Employer 2025 by the Financial Times, reflecting its employee culture.

Challenges and Regulatory Issues

In August 2022, OneAdvanced suffered a ransomware attack that disrupted NHS 111 and other services, leading to the exfiltration of personal data. In 2025, the Information Commissioner's Office imposed a £3.08 million penalty for the incident. The company has since strengthened its security measures. Despite this, OneAdvanced continues to grow, with revenue of £346 million in 2024 and a headcount of approximately 2,864 employees. It operates in the UK, Republic of Ireland, India, Australia, Canada, and the United States.

Leadership and Employees

The current leadership team, appointed during the 2023 refresh, includes CEO Simon Walsh, CFO Stephen Dews, and CTO Andrew Henderson. Founder Vin Murria no longer holds an executive role. The company employs around 2,900 people and serves millions of end-users daily, including managing 1.5 million NHS 111 calls per month and supporting over 2 million learners.
