History and Founding

Mishcon de Reya began in 1937 when Victor Mishcon, aged 22, opened his practice at 463–465 Brixton Road above a Barclays Bank. After World War II the firm moved to Holborn and grew steadily. In 1988 it merged with the old City firm Bartletts de Reya to form Mishcon de Reya. The 1990s saw the arrival of Kevin Gold in 1994 as part of a team hire from Bayer Rosin; he became managing partner in 1997 and later Executive Chair, driving the firm's revenue and profile.

The firm operates as a limited liability partnership with around 234 partners. Its practice groups cover Corporate, Dispute Resolution, Employment, Intellectual Property, Real Estate, and Mishcon Private (for high-net-worth individuals). Mishcon de Reya is recognised as a Silver Circle law firm, a designation for leading London-based firms that are not quite Magic Circle but still command high-profile work and premium fees. The firm has a particularly strong reputation in high-value commercial litigation, private client work, and matters involving Israel and Jewish community interests, reflecting founder Lord Mishcon's role as an emissary in Jordan-Israel peace talks.

International Expansion and M&A

International expansion began with a New York office in 2010 (later scaled back) and a Singapore office in 2020. The firm merged with Cambridge-based Taylor Vinters in 2023, strengthening its innovation economy and technology practice. It also has an association with Karas So LLP in Hong Kong. In 2022, the firm paid a record £315,000 fine from the Solicitors Regulation Authority for anti-money-laundering breaches. Mishcon de Reya briefly explored an IPO before shelving the plan.
